Selama ini saya sering bermasalah pada suction dan Three Way Syringe yang sering mampet ketika digunakan. Dental unit dengan peralatan yang kecil dan bisa dikatakan rumit, memerlukan perhatian khusus untuk perawatannya. Alat-alat tersebut sangat berpengaruh pada kesehatan pasien kita. Jangan sampai karena kecerobohan kita dalam merawat, justru malah memberikan pengaruh yang fatal karena masih banyaknya kuman yang akan menulari si pasien. Dalam perawatan alat-alat dental unit ini hanya dibutuhkan ketelatenan dan intensitas yang sering dalam melakukannya.

Dalam kasus drg. Juana ini juga sering terjadi pada dokter gigi lain. Di samping handpiece, terdapat alat bernama Suction, Saliva dan Three Way Syringe yang memang adalah alat-alat yang kecil dan perlu perawatan khusus. Suction merupakan alat penyedot yang biasanya digunakan untuk operasi besar, seperti menyedot semen-semen gigi dan darah ketika pencabutan. Semen dan darah tersebut akan mengumpul di dalamnya dan jika didiamkan saja, maka akan mengendap dan akan menghambat jalannya penyedotan. Begitu pula dengan Saliva yang digunakan untuk operasi ringan atau menyedot cairan air liur pada pasien. Walaupun tidak mengendap, tetapi kuman dan bakteri yang terkandung dalam air liur tersebut akan sangat berbahaya jika digunakan oleh pasien lain tanpa dibersihkan terlebih dahulu. Biasanya endapan yang ada dalam alat tersebut yaitu berupa darah yang mengering dan menggumpal. Gumpalan tersebut lama-lama akan menutupi diameter selang dan membuat kinerja selang mampet ketika menyedot. Ketika endapan tersebut sudah menghambat sistem kerja alat, maka biasanya para teknisi diminta untuk mengorek endapan.
Nah agar endapan tersebut tidak terjadi maka disarankan bagi para dokter yang mempunyai dental unit ini untuk membersihkan secara rutin dengan cara alat tersebut disedotkan pada satu gayung air. Hal ini bertujuan agar endapan-endapan yang ada dalam selang yang menempel, dapat terkikis dan ditampung di tempat penampungan kotoran sehingga dapat dibuang bersama dengan kotoran lain.

Begitu pula dengan Three Way Syringe yang biasanya jarang dipakai oleh dokter. Karena sering tidak dipakai, terkadang alat ini muncul seperti lumut yang membuat permukaan licin. Untuk perawatan Three Way Syringe alat ini tidak jauh berbeda dengan perawatan Suction dan Saliva. Cukup dengan sesekali disemprotkan, maka endapan air yang riskan terhadap kuman dapat terbuang.
